WHETHER MYTHOLOGICAL EPIC RAMAYANA IS A TREATISE OF MORALS?
It was tulsidas [1532-1623],who established larger than life divine status of Rama,the main character of Ramayana,when he composed Ramcharitmanas in 16th century.If we go through both popular versions of mythological story [Ramcharitmanas and Valmiki Ramayan],it is beyond any logic or comprehension to believe that Rama deserved to be accorded status of Maryadha Purshotam [an epithet of 'god' Vishnu with propriety of conduct and dignity].
*According to the Ramayana,the whole world was "created by god"for the exclusive benefit and glory of Brahmins.All other castes in general and Shudra in particular were meant to serve them.Accordingly Shudras were not entitled to devout penances. When one Shudra Shambuka violated the divine code,resulting in the premature death of a Brahmin boy just 5000 days old,it was considered as grave administrative lapse under Ramrajya.Rama,being "ideal" king,himself took the initiative and "criminal"Shudra was located on the bank of a lake by the side of the Shavaili mountain doing rigorous tapas,standing upon his head. Without a moments hesitation Rama "with a beautiful sharp sword chopped off his head". The 'gods' in 'heaven' were so delighted at that "god like work" of Rama that they showered flowers flowers upon his head "again and again" and extolled him.[Valmiki Ramayana,part 2,uttarkandam,chapter 73-76].
*There was conflict of interests between two brothers Bali and Sugreeva. Rama for his own selfish motives exploited their conflict and entered into a pact with Sugreeva, and accordingly Rama fulfilled his part of the pact by sending a deadly arrow against Bali,while the later was engaged in a duel with Sugreeva,hiding himself behind a tree unseen.Rama comes out of this episode as an unscrupulous and cowardly assassin.[Ibid,Kishkinda kandam].
*Surapnakha, was the sister of Ravana.The description of her ,by Valmiki ,appears to be highly prejudiced. When her brother was as handsome as 'Manmatha",she could not be so horribly ugly.When she saw Rama by chance,she fell in love with him and solicited his hand. Rama did not reciprocate her love. There was nothing wrong on both sides;but when she continued to exhibit her excessive love for Rama-at first both brothers cut jokes at her expense and then finally punished her for her impertinence by cutting off her nose and ears.It is share hypocrisy today when gullible and credulous followers of Rama, condemn Ravana for his revenge act and also condemn Muslim fanatics whenever there are reports of same type of brutality against Muslim women. 

POSITIVE RATIONALISM,
Many years back, during interaction on then contemporary issues,one of my leftist friend characterized George Bush as devil [शैतान] ,but when poked by me to characterize Bin Laden too with identical "honor",he was not only non committal but bluntly refused to do so.There lies the problem of being selective with prejudice. Ironically enough,in this part of globe,there are "progressive secularists" whose secularism is based on opposing one brand of fundamentalism/obscurantism while supporting or being silent on another shade of fundamentalism/obscurantism.These very people are again selective for human right violations -following the dictum that all people are equal but some people are more than equal.I strongly believe that at least our rationalist friends,following supremacy of reason and logic ,should be sincerely wise enough to address any contemporary sensitive subject without flinching from the truth and commenting with jaundiced out look.They should be realistically bold enough to condemn both Hindu and Islamic fundamentalism c obscurantism.Any idea or hypothesis which is in gross violation of humanism and simultaneously cannot be scrutinized under supremacy of reason has to be condemned and opposed without fear or favor. Undoubtedly,negation of "god" and associated religiosity is one significant aspect of rationalism but it is to be followed with rationalistic practice and perception in all socio political aspects of our day to day life ,without any mindless equivalence.  

धार्मिक पाखंड का वर्चस्व !
स्वतंत्रता के 68 वर्षों के बाद 21वीं शताब्दी में भी भारतीय समाज पर धर्मांधता और पाखंड का वर्चस्व पहले से भी अधिक हावी है. यहाँ आज भी शिक्षा संस्थानों और चिकित्सालयों से कहीं अधिक धर्मस्थल और धर्मस्थान हैं जहां यज्ञ, कर्मकांड, जप, पूजा, नमाज़, रोज़े, अखण्ड पाठ, प्रेयर, प्रार्थना, तीर्थ, व्रत, जगराता, पंड़े, पुजारी, मुल्ला, मौलवियों, व पादरियों ने धूम मैं रखी है. अंधभक्त उन्हीं के मार्ग दर्शन और दिशा निर्देश पर चलते हैं. अधिकांश लोगों ने तर्कशील और वैज्ञानिक सोच को तिलांजलि दे रखी है ,जिस के फलस्वरूप -जो चाहोगे वही मिलेगा के प्रतीक के रूप में लक्ष्मी यंत्र, कुबेर यंत्र, हनुमान चालीसा यंत्र, अल्ला यंत्र, नज़र बचाओ यंत्र, अंगूठी, तावीज़, गंड़े, हर रोग को चुटकी में ठीक करने वाले योग, असाध्य से असाध्य रोगों का शतप्रतिशत ठीक करने का धंधा ज़ोरशोर से चल रहा है.

रिश्वत का अध्यात्मिक रिश्ता !
जब तक धर्म भक्त अपने अपने धर्मस्थलों में अपने अपने इष्ट देव का तुष्टिकरण करते हुए भक्तिस्वरूप चढावा चढाते रहेंगे और वह चढावा नैवेद्य कहलाया जायेगा, न भ्रष्टाचार की मानसिकता समाप्त होगी और न ही रिश्वत का महारोग समाप्त होगा. 
जब परदा कोई नहीं खुदा से, 
तो बन्दों से डरना क्या?

बिल्ली सौ चूहे खाकर तीर्थ यात्रा पर !
आजकल निक्कर ब्रिगेड के सभी छोटे बड़े महारथी चिल्ला चिल्ला कर, संसदीय प्रजातन्त्र के एकमात्र "निष्ठावान अनुयायी "का रोल निभाते हुए, कांग्रेस पर लोकसभा और राज्यसभा की कार्यवाही में विघ्न डालने का आरोप लगा रहे हैं. लोगों की स्मरण शक्ति इतनी भी क्षीण नहीं है कि उन्हें याद न हो कि किस प्रकार पिछली लोकसभा में नियमित ढंग से हंगामा करते हुए भाजपा ने संसदीय इतिहास में एक नया कीर्तिमान बनाने में अपनी भूमिका निभाई. पिछली लोकसभा में सर्वाधिक विघ्न के कारण सब से कम कार्यवाही हुई. 
स्पष्ट रूप से लोकसभा के रंगमंच पर वही कलाकार हैं परन्तु कलाकारों के रोल बदल गये हैं.

SELECTIVE PROSECUTION ;
Well known leading prosecutor Rohini Salian's has revealed that ever since BJP govt came to power,she had been under tremendous pressure to go soft in the 2008 Malegaon blast cases.Alleged perpetrators are believed to be the same fanatic group of people who one way or other are also linked with Mecca/Ajmer masjid blasts and Samjhauta express blasts -which killed 68 people.Since there are no valid reasons to ignore or dismiss Rohini Salian's sensational assertion,selective prosecution and deplorable bias can be bitter repugnant truth.
On the contrary prosecuting authorities super active enthusiasm in prosecuting well known social activist Teesta Setalvad is to be seen and believed.Opposing her bail plea and subsequently seeking her custody,the CBI has submitted in the court that foreign funding to her publication house constitutes a threat to India's internal security.
Ludicrous argumentation indeed !

प्रगतिवाद या अतीतवाद !
21वीं शताब्दी की सब से बड़ी सामाजिक त्रासदी है कि आज भी अधिकांश धार्मिक आस्थावान यह मानते हैं कि उन के अपने अपने धार्मिक ग्रन्थ ईश्वरीय रचना है, जो हज़ारों वर्ष पहले लिखे गए हैं जो हर समस्या हर विषय पर अन्तिम शब्द है और आज भी पूर्णरूपेण प्रासंगिक हैं. वह लोग अपनी नाक से 6" अधिक दायें बायें या आगे देखने को तैयार नहीं है. आगे की गली बन्द है. क्या यह सोच यह चिंतन मानवीय बुद्धि, रचनात्मकता और सृजनशीलता का अपमान नहीं है? कमाल का विरोधाभास देखिए कि यही लोग 20-21वीं शताब्दी के समस्त अविष्कारों के मज़े भी लूट रहे हैं और दूसरी तरफ व्यवहार और चिंतन में निरर्थक और अप्रासंगिक धार्मिक पोथियों की शान में चिल्ला चिल्ला कर कसीदे भी पढते हैं वह भी डंके की चोट पर !

भगवा अवसरवादिता : कल के खलनायक आज के नायक !
सरदार पटेल, महात्मा गांधी और बाबा साहब भीम राव अम्बेदकर के बाद भाजपा ने महान कांग्रेसी नेता, तमिलनाडु के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री और कांग्रेस में ‘किंग मेकर’ के नाम से मशहूर पूर्व कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष के. कामराज की विरासत पर कब्जा करने और उनकी ओट में तमिलनाडु में प्रभाव बढ़ाने की अपनी योजना के अंतर्गत 15 जुलाई को कामराज की 113वीं जयंती पर उनके जन्म स्थान विरुध नगर में एक समारोह का आयोजन किया।

दूसरों की विरासत हथियाने की नवीनतम कड़ी में भाजपा ने जम्मू-कश्मीर की राजनीति के पुरोधा तथा वरिष्ठ कांग्रेसी पंडित गिरधारी लाल डोगरा को चुना और नरेंद्र मोदी ने 17 जुलाई को जम्मू में स्व. गिरधारी लाल डोगरा के जन्म शताब्दी समारोह में भाषण करते हुए उन्हें भावभीनी श्रद्धांजलि अॢपत की।

उल्लेखनीय है कि स्व. डोगरा नरेंद्र मोदी के मंत्रिमंडल में वित्त मंत्री श्री अरुण जेतली के ससुर हैं जो कि मंच पर ही उपस्थित थे।

विडम्बना ही है कि एक ओर तो भाजपा ने अपने वरिष्ठï नेताओं लाल कृष्ण अडवानी आदि को ‘मार्गदर्शक मंडल’ में शामिल करने के बहाने हाशिए पर डाल रखा है तथा दूसरी ओर अपना वोट बैंक मजबूत करने के लिए यह दूसरे दलों के नेताओं को हाईजैक कर रही है।

इसी कारण राजनीतिक क्षेत्रों में कहा जा रहा है कि यदि भाजपा अपनी धर्म निरपेक्षता की नीति के अंतर्गत ऐसा कर रही है तब तो ठीक है परंतु क्या उक्त नेताओं की भांति ही भाजपा नेतृत्व मुस्लिम, ईसाई और अन्य समुदायों के नेताओं जैसे कि मौलाना आजाद, जाकिर हुसैन, मो. अशफाक-उल्ला-खान, खुदा बख्श, 1900 के पूर्वाद्र्ध में राष्ट्रीय आंदोलन को दिशा देने वाले बंगाली ईसाई काली चरण बनर्जी या भारत छोड़ो आंदोलन के दौरान जेल यात्रा करने वाले ‘यंग इंडिया’ के सम्पादक जे.सी. कुमारप्पा (मूल नाम जॉन जेसुदासन कार्नेलियस) आदि को भी अपना कर अपनी ‘धर्म निरपेक्षता’ की सूची में डालेगा?[मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स आधारित संकलन].

GENERATION GAP AND OLD AGE ADVERSITY  !
How do societies treat old people? This is an interesting question. Almost in all existing societies of the world this question is asked; in some it is extensively debated and in others the debates are carried to their logical conclusion. Aging is a reality of life though no one knows how long one is to live. Ancient Indian ages had divided life span into four parts and for each part of life they had defined the type of duty they have to perform. The last phase of life, according to the traditional knowledge is the period for reflection, meditation and asceticism. How far that is possible to stick to, is again a moot point.
Recently, a study titled “Human Rights of Elderly in India: A critical Reflection on Social Development” has been released by Agewell Foundation after it conducted interviews of 5,000 elderly people across India. The conclusions it has drawn are not happy ones. At least we never expected that Indian society has undergone such a radical change. To highlight the point the study broadly says that two-third of elderly people of India, meaning people above the age of 60, are neglected by their families and one-third of them have suffered physical or verbal abuse. The elderly people in urban India have become more vulnerable to both neglect as well as physical or verbal abuse. This is depressing no doubt. The more depressing is that in our country there are very few old-age homes. These exist only in some major cities of the country whereas in rural areas there is hardly any old age home.
This study was carried out on 5000 elderly persons in different parts of the country. The organization claims that the study was carried out by top experts in various branches of social science like anthropologists, sociologists, psychologists and social workers. As such we have to give credence to their finding especially when they have conducted extensive field study. What the society will do about this issue is a question that will have to be debated in academic and administrative levels. What should interest us more will be to analyse the causes of this phenomenon. In the first place, the present age is the age of tremendous scientific and technological development which has left deep impact on society and life style. This has caused generation gap which is a continuing process. It means that the gap that exists between the father and the son is greater today than what it was in earlier generation. However, the gap does not end there with the son. The gap between the son and the grandson is also widening and leaving its impact on the second generation also. By and large the impression with the younger generation about the elderly is that they are of old fashion that has no takers now and hardly bear any co-relation with the up-coming generation.

धर्म का धंधा :लाभ ही लाभ !
प्राचीन बुद्धिवादी, चार्वाक दर्शन में पहली बार, तत्कालीन धार्मिक परिदृश्य पर व्यंग्यात्मक समीक्षा में धर्म को धंधे के रूप में परिभाषित किया गया है जो आज 21वीं शताब्दी में अधिक प्रासंगिक लगता है:-
* बुद्धिपौरूषहीनानां जीविका धातृ निर्मितः (जीविकेति बृहस्पति ).अर्थात बुद्धि और पुरूषार्थ (परजीवी ब्राह्मण )से हीन लोगों के लिए धर्म जीविका का धंधा है जो उन के पूर्वज अपने वंश के लिए स्थापित कर गए हैं. 
लाइज मैकनीन ने 21वीं शताब्दी में, अपने शोध ग्रन्थ* में इस तथ्य की पुष्टि करते हुए लिखा है :-"धर्म न केवल एक अच्छा धंधा है बल्कि यह सर्वोत्तम कारोबार है. कोई लागत या आपूर्ति की समस्या नहीं और हवाई शब्दावली के बदले ठोस वस्तुएं मिलती हैं".

अध्यात्मिक सुरक्षा कवच,
धर्म का अंधविश्वास और बहुचर्चित "अध्यात्मवाद"से चोली दामन का रिश्ता है. जहाँ अंधविश्वास व्यवहार और चिंतन में स्थूल है वहीं अध्यात्मवाद व्यवहार और चिंतन में अव्यवहारिक और सूक्ष्म है. दोनों एक ही सिक्के के दो पहलू हैं. जब जब धार्मिक उन्माद के फलस्वरूप विरोधियों की निर्मम हत्यायें होती हैं, धार्मिक "पवित्रता "के लिए खून की नदियाँ बहाई जाती हैं तब तब धर्मगर्द लोग घिनौने रक्तपात के लिए अध्यात्मिक सुरक्षा कवच का सहारा लेते हैं. हज़ारों वर्षों से यह मानवता विरोधी घृणित क्रम चलता आया है और आज भी यह क्रम जारी है. ईद के "पावन"अवसर पर ईराक और नाईजीरिया में 160 से अधिक लोग आत्मघाती हमलों में मार दिए गये.
कौन रहता है कि धर्म शान्ति, मानवता और शान्तमय सहस्तित्व का पुण्य और पावन प्रतीक है ???.

QUESTIONABLE CREDIBILITY ?
By revealing the rampant corruption in medical school admissions, the Vyapam scam has further eroded India’s shaky faith in its doctors.

The ongoing Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal scam in Madhya Pradesh (commonly known by its Hindi acronym Vyapam) has seen the deaths of a number of people under suspicious circumstances. The rising body count has caused a national furore, forcing the government to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation to look further into the admissions and recruitment scandal that has been rocking the country. But besides the macabre deaths, the field of medicine in India must brace itself for one other negative fallout of the scam: the already declining trust in medical service providers has now fallen further,though alarming situation in one state of the country cannot be generalized.

MYTH AND SUPERSTITION ABOUT 'KUMBH MELA' !
The  mythological story about 'Kumbh Mela' has been narrated in an most glorifying manner in Hindu scripture Shrimad Bhagavatam,though its description is available in some other scriptures too.Subsequent, upon churning of primal ocean ,jointly by the Devas[Angles] and the Asuras [Demons] ,using Mandar Mountain as the churning stone and a giant python named Anantnaga as the rope,the universe was gifted with great 'boons'. Symbolizing extraordinary fantasies,a flying horse,a wish giving cow,a priceless jewel,a magic moon, a sky car,Rambha supposed goddess of illusion,Lakshmi supposed goddess of wealth and Vishwakarma ,supposed mystic architect. Other items followed until Danwantri,appeared holding the nectar [Amrita] in  a large jar called Kumbh.
The Asuras were about to take possession of the nectar,when Rambha began dancing in such a way as to distract them. Meanwhile Jayanta,one of the Devas transformed himself into a large bird and flew off with the Kumbha.Jayanta took twelve days to fly up to paradise where the nectar would be kept for protection, As he was escaping from Asuras,he flew over the earth,stopping at four places,namely Prayag, Hardwar,Timbkeshwar [Nasik] and Ujjain.At each of these places,some drops of nectar fell into the river ,making it into a 'holy place for pilgrimage'. 

बहुचर्चित गंगा जल का यथार्थ !
तथाकथित पवित्र नदी होने के बावजूद यह दुनिया की दूषित नदियों में छठे स्थान पर है। इसके कई कारण हैं। जहां त्यौहारों पर स्नान करते समय करोड़ों श्रद्धालु कई प्रकार की वस्तुएं जल प्रवाह करके गंगा को दूषित करते हैं, वहीं इसके किनारे बसे शहर और कस्बे अपने सीवरों का गंदा पानी इसमें फैंक रहे हैं। इसके किनारे बसे बनारस, इलाहाबाद, पटना, कानपुर इत्यादि शहरों की असंख्य औद्योगिक इकाइयां (जिनमें रासायनिक उद्योग, चमड़ा रंगने के कारखाने, बूचडख़ाने, अस्पताल इत्यादि शामिल हैं) बिना परिशोधित किया गंदा पानी व अन्य अपशिष्ट इसमें फैंक रहे हैं। यही कारण है कि गंगा का पानी अब पीने योग्य नहीं रहा, क्योंकि इसमें पेट, जिगर के रोगों और कैंसर इत्यादि जैसी बीमारियों के कीटाणु तथा जहरीले रसायन मौजूद हैं। और तो और, अब इसका पानी कृषि कार्यों के लिए भी उपयुक्त नहीं रहा।

अकेले कानपुर में चमड़ा उद्योगों की 400 इकाइयां हैं, जिनमें 50000 मजदूर काम करते हैं। ये इकाइयां क्रोमियम युक्त जहरीले पदार्थों का प्रयोग करती हैं। 1995 में बेशक इन सब इकाइयों के लिए एक संयुक्त जलशोधन संयंत्र स्थापित किया गया था, लेकिन इसके बावजूद गंगा के पानी में क्रोमियम की मात्रा कम नहीं हुई। वर्तमान में तो इसकी मात्रा तय सीमा से 70 गुणा अधिक है। इंडियन मैडीकल कौंसिल की 2012 की एक रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक उत्तर प्रदेश, बिहार, बंगाल के वे शहर जो गंगा के किनारे बसे हुए हैं। शेष देश की तुलना में कैंसर से कहीं अधिक प्रभावित हैं।

"यमराज हमारे साथ है "!
# मित्रो, एक लम्बे अंतराल के बाद मुझे नास्तिकता पर संशय होने लगा है. यह सर्वविदित है कि संघ परिवार का भगवान जी के साथ घनिष्ठ सम्बन्ध है, वह भारत भूमि पर उन के परम विश्वसनीय अधिकृत प्रतिनिधि के रूप में जानेमाने जाते हैं. नागपुर मुख्यालय के अति निकटतम सूत्रों का कहना है कि संघ परिवार और भगवान जी के बीच दिव्य सम्पर्क सूत्र हाट लाइन भी स्थापित है. विश्वास करना ही पड़ेगा. व्यापम घोटाला में 45 आरोपी अथवा गवाह एक एक करके अस्वाभाविक परिस्थितियों में इस लोक से दूसरे लोक में प्रस्थान कर गये/करा दिये गये. अब यह संयोग मात्र तो होने से रहा. स्पष्ट रूप से भगवान जी के विश्वासपात्र यमराज अपने विशिष्ट योगदान के कारण संघ परिवार के संकटमोचन प्रमाणित हो रहे हैं.
पिछले दिनों जब कुछ विरोधियों ने संघ परिवार के एक शीर्षस्थ नेता को ललकारते हुए पूछा, "आप के पास क्या है?"तो नेताजी ने विश्वास भरी मुस्कराहट के साथ कहा, "मेरे पास यमराज है".
अब आप ही बतायें? प्रत्यक्षं किम प्रमाणम्? भगवान जी के अस्तित्व और उस की दिव्य कृपा को तो मानना ही पड़ेगा.
