SHAKESPEARE :FAR FROM AN HONORABLE MAN [NEW STUDY]!
"Forget Shakespeare in love. The next film could be Shakespeare in jail.Turns out the bard of Avon was something of a bounder,as bad as any of our own black marketeers ,hoarders and tax evaders whom we love to hate-and envy.Three academics at the university of Aberystwyth have welshed on the most celebrated man of English literature . Looking into his 'other life'as a businessman and owner of cultivable and pasture land, they ploughed through incriminating court records. They have dug up quite a dung heap.
Their research reveals that Shakespeare was repeatedly hauled up for illegally stockpiling food when much of Europe reeled under famine. The merchant of Avon acquired on local produce such as corn, grain and hay and rapaciously extracted more than measure for measure from those who did not pay up in full and in time. He himself faced imprisonment for evading taxes, though, for sooth,he claimed the borough was making Much Ado about nothing.Luckily for him,all is well that ends well. Not only did he manage to stay out,but thanks to his legal and illegal activities,he was able to retire in 1613 as the largest property owner in Stratford upon Avon.Pity the real estate boom was yet to arrive, else Shakespeare will might have bequeathed a richer legacy."
