The teaching of karmyoga consists of two parts:first you have to do your work without an eye or desire for the fruit thereof and secondly, the fruit of your action,if and when obtained,is to be discarded or surrendered or thrown away.In no case should it be accepted. You have to renounce it.To ordinary person like me,this appears a strange, startling and un-intelligible doctrine.Followers are told that it is their obligation [right to work] but to the fruit thereof, they never have a right.I think that a man's right to the fruit of his labor is fundamental and unquestionable.A desire to achieve certain results is the mother of progress.Desirelessness is the mother of stagnation. In the absence of desire,we would still have been jumping from tree to tree without shedding our tails and still walking on all fours.
Again what does renunciation of the fruits of action mean? What is the process by which followers have to surrender the fruits of action to 'god'?Are they supposed to keep the pay packet or the currency notes on the alter of a temple or at the feet of an idol and think no more about it?
All inventors, research workers, explorers work with motive or objective and are interested in the results.Nothing was ever achieved by object less endeavor.
